0:07
hi this is Anita the global trade gal
0:10
Today I want to talk a little bit about
0:11
why companies should look to source
0:14
product from Vietnam Now as my company
0:16
Manduro we are in home decor and home
0:19
furnishing A lot of the focus of this
0:21
will be upon something which we know
0:23
which is home decor and home furnishing
0:25
But I'll also talk a little bit in
0:26
general why companies might want to look
0:28
to source products from Vietnam
0:31
Especially if now all of your production
0:33
is in China you may want to look to be
0:35
able to source some product and
0:40
Vietnam Why Vietnam continues to be a
0:43
top choice for sourcing products and
0:45
especially for my own industry home
0:47
decor product There's many reasons why
0:50
Vietnam is a sought-after um destination
0:54
you know for many types of sourcing but
0:56
it also you know Vietnam has a very
0:59
young population You know over you know
1:02
half the population is quite young It
1:04
doesn't have a population like Japan or
1:06
other places where the population is
1:08
starting to age out In fact Vietnam has
1:10
a very young population
1:14
So you know this you know means that you
1:17
basically have a pool of people who are
1:19
looking to be employed or or that want
1:22
to be employed that want to work If
1:24
you're looking for manufacturing it's
1:27
you know known for its you know rich
1:29
artistic type of heritage as a very
1:32
skilled labor force Education among the
1:35
Vietnamese is extremely important So
1:38
education has always been very important
1:41
In fact Vietnam has a higher literacy
1:44
rate than many other western countries
1:47
Their literacy rate is extremely high
1:49
here And one of the reasons why is
1:51
because among the Vietnamese themselves
1:53
education or uh being literate has
1:56
always been a very important thing
1:58
Vietnam has been rising in home decor at
2:01
least in my industry in in the
2:03
manufacturing And part of it is because
2:05
of skilled artisans with generations of
2:08
craft knowledge competitive labor cost
2:11
rich local materials There's lots of
2:14
materials you can find here strategic
2:16
trade agreements they've had with the
2:18
you know US EU and beyond right now with
2:21
the US that trade agreements having a
2:23
bit of a problem with some of the
2:25
tariffs But I I believe it will work out
2:27
because the Vietnamese are are quite
2:29
pragmatic in their view on these things
2:31
And the government has a lot of support
2:33
for manufacturing and for export A lot
2:35
of there's a skilled workforce as I
2:37
mentioned a young workforce There's a
2:39
lot of people you know it's Vietnam is a
2:41
very young population that is um you
2:44
know looking to to be able to find jobs
2:46
and to be able to work And the
2:48
Vietnamese themselves are very hard
2:50
workers They want to work they have sort
2:52
of like that same you know work ethic as
2:55
many of the Chinese have and that they
2:56
want to work and they want to be able to
2:58
work hard There's a lot of local
3:00
materials that are available You know
3:02
they have a lot of bamboo they have
3:04
retan um there's wood uh water hyasin
3:08
seaggrass they have you know other types
3:10
of materials that can be used ceramics
3:12
the clay and and other things which can
3:14
be used to be able to produce all types
3:16
of at least home decor products If
3:18
you're looking for things like stone
3:20
they have some of the natural resources
3:22
here too and some of the mining
3:24
operations going on There's a lot of
3:26
different types of local materials
3:28
become more available and you know
3:31
they're constantly developing new types
3:33
of material and new types of things and
3:35
and new types of manufacturing is going
3:37
on here They can be relatively
3:41
I mentioned in a previous podcast that
3:42
we were looking at some other you know
3:44
Asian countries and I found that Vietnam
3:47
was 100 to 300% cheaper than some other
3:51
countries that we were looking at which
3:53
is significant I mean it's huge You know
3:55
they may not be as cheap as China on
3:57
some items but they can you know be as
3:59
competitive and go neck andneck with
4:01
China So if you have a brand and you're
4:04
looking to say I don't want to be so
4:05
China dependent you know Vietnam would
4:08
definitely be the location for you to
4:10
look at and and check out you know
4:13
especially depending upon what type of
4:14
product it is But generally speaking I
4:17
would say that Vietnam offers a lot of
4:21
manufacturing opportunities Vietnam has
4:24
a lot of great infrastructure and port
4:25
access There's a you know there's quite
4:27
a few major ports The two major ports
4:30
are um you know down in Ho Chi Min and
4:32
in and and in Hi Hiong which is outside
4:35
of Hanoi You know there's also you know
4:37
there's some other smaller parts like in
4:39
the central part and Queen and you know
4:41
in other places like that So Vietnam
4:43
does have ports where you can ship the
4:46
goods out If you look at a map of
4:48
Vietnam you'll see that it's a very long
4:50
sort of skinny narrow country that has a
4:53
long coastline So you know because of
4:55
that they were able to be able to you
4:57
know build the other ports and get
4:59
things out you know of their country
5:01
quite easily You when you look at China
5:03
you know China has a long coastline too
5:05
but China also is a very you know large
5:08
country So if something is in the
5:10
western part of China it still has to go
5:12
to the eastern part to be able to get
5:14
out on the ship Whereas Vietnam because
5:16
the country is sort of long and narrow
5:19
it's not such a huge distance to travel
5:22
from If your manufacturing is on one
5:24
side of the country to get to the port
5:27
it's not such a huge distance as it may
5:28
be for another country So there is sort
5:31
of that you know type of advantage in
5:33
the fact that they you know have these
5:35
major ports and have been investing in
5:37
major ports and they've been investing
5:40
and be able to get these containers out
5:42
They have some great you know design
5:44
capabilities and customizations that
5:46
they're willing to do for the production
5:49
You know that a lot of the Vietnamese
5:50
factories are are really you know they
5:52
are not afraid to do your design to try
5:55
your design generally speaking can do
5:58
things maybe that's different than some
5:59
of the Chinese can do There are things
6:01
that definitely are produced here in
6:03
Vietnam which China does not do And you
6:06
know vice versa there's things in China
6:08
which Vietnam doesn't do too But you
6:10
know a lot of the you know production
6:12
and other capabilities that are you know
6:14
here if it if it fits in with the type
6:16
of look that you have or your you know
6:19
your brand or your product there you
6:21
know there can be some really you know
6:23
great um techniques here I really
6:25
believe in Vietnam there's a lot of
6:27
ethical and socially responsible
6:29
manufacturing you know where you know
6:31
companies are looking to provide fair
6:32
wages and safer working conditions to
6:35
avoid child labor and exploitative
6:38
practices and you know follow
6:39
environmental and waste reduction
6:41
protocols I want to talk a minute about
6:43
child labor because in especially in a
6:45
lot of the major cities you know
6:47
education is very important to most
6:49
Vietnamese families So they are not you
6:52
know unless they're really destitute for
6:54
some reason will not have their you know
6:56
children out there working you know in
6:59
in a factory they would want their child
7:00
to go to school because education is
7:03
important to the Vietnamese And that's
7:06
why as I mentioned before there's a very
7:07
high literacy rate We found that there's
7:10
a consistency quality control here Yes
7:12
like any other place in the world there
7:14
can be some you know problems and and
7:16
other types of issues but generally we
7:18
have found that when you say to them
7:20
that this is not up to standard they'd
7:21
be willing to fix it And you know we can
7:24
be able to get it fixed before we ship
7:26
it out You know that's why you know Muro
7:28
for us quality is extremely important I
7:31
mentioned this before that a lot of
7:32
times we will do 100% inspection We will
7:36
look at things you know 100% you know
7:38
for while things are in we we do two
7:41
types of inspection We do one which is
7:43
called the due pro which is during the
7:45
process inspection meaning we check the
7:47
goods as they're in the manufacturing
7:49
process And many times you know my my
7:52
team is there while they're actually
7:54
packing the goods up so we see exactly
7:56
what is being packed And part of that is
7:58
because most of my customers you know
8:01
medium to higher end and if there's
8:04
problems or complaints we hear about it
8:06
It cost us money So we want to make sure
8:08
that the goods that we're producing are
8:10
up to the standard and the quality that
8:13
is required You know these are many
8:14
reasons why you know Vietnam I find is a
8:18
great place to be able to produce
8:20
product It's a great place to build
8:22
source product That's why it's continues
8:24
to be an important manufacturing hub and
8:27
I believe will continue to be an
8:28
important manufacturing hub for many
8:31
years to come This is Anita from the
8:33
Global Trade Gal We've hope you've
8:34
enjoyed this We've written a blog post
8:36
on this I will put it into description
8:38
It's called Why Source Home Decor
8:40
Products from Vietnam Even though I
8:43
specifically talk about home decor
8:44
products if you have other products that
8:46
you're looking at it may also give you
8:47
some ideas of some reasons why you
8:50
should consider to source your products
8:53
from Vietnam or look to Vietnam as a
8:55
manufacturing base for some of your
8:57
products We've hope you've enjoyed this
