The Peaceful Sanctuary – Building a Tranquil Haven

As many people around the world have been forced to shelter in place, this has given them a chance to reconnect with nature. During the era of COVID, one of the areas that many people have rediscovered is hiking, camping, and long walks outside with the dog.

With exercise gyms closed or with limited access, many people have had to find other ways to exercise. For many, this has become a walk or run out in nature or hiking up a mountain top.

During the summer of 2020, one of the hottest new travel trends was camping. Everything from RV sales to camping equipment was sold in record numbers.

People just got tired of the four walls of their home and decided one of the safest and best ways to travel during the era of COVID was through camping. The outdoor activity of camping – whether in a tent or with an RV provided ample opportunities for social distancing. These activites had a signifciant increase worldwide.

Gardening is another outdoor activity that increased during the COVID era. Many families saw this as a family-friendly and safe activity they could do at home. Some people grew fruits and vegetables because of economic concerns or stress. Others saw it as a way to avoid the supermarket as much as possible so they could live “off the land.”

Dee Schlotter, the senior color marketing manager for architectural and industrial coatings for PPG Brand Paints, recently spoke to the Washington Post about how the increase in outdoor activities has affected their home decor color trend choices. Dee Schlotter said:

“With the world sheltering in place for the better half of the year, we have begun to crave human connection and embrace simple activities, including walking, hiking, baking, and gardening …This organic and hopeful palette represents what we have been longing for after decades of over-stimulation and over-consumption — simplicity and restfulness.”
