Handmade Pottery made to look old.
Now that the dust is settling from High Point, everyone is starting to ask, what is next? What should we be looking at for the next show in October. Over the next few newsletters, we will try to help you to shift through and decipher what upcoming seasons are likely to offer. One trend that is coming is one that I call “Looking Back.” The trends will be looking back to some of the older or past cultures such as Ancient Cultures, Greek and Rome, and Renaissance Era.
1. Ancient Cultures - expect global looks to continue to shift more towards ancient cultures. Many of these will be from some ancient people such as Aztec Indians or American Indian Cultures. Think of some of these primitive shapes, figures and symbols used in these cultures. Those who were disappointed to see the trend of Monkey’s fade, will be glad to see a return of Monkey’s and other animals such as Tigers and Leopards who are expected to come back with a new twist. With this new trend will be some aged pottery, that will almost look like it has just been dug up from these ancient people. This month we will be going into Tibet to look at some of the handicrafts and production sources for this ancient culture trend. Those who would be interested in talking to Anita about her trip and the resources and development that is available there, please feel free to contact her at sales@mondoro.com. For color of this trend use browns, Clay colors, green, teal, accents with reds and purples. Colors from the ancient colors and people.
2.Greek and Rome - Influences from Greek and Rome never seem to go out of style but will come back at the forefront of fashion. Scrollwork that is carefully placed, medallions, damask and Greek patterns. Graceful forms and columns will continue to play a role. Look towards marble and recycled glass. For the colors gold and bronze will be important along with smudges of the aging technique. Other colors will be French blue, sandstones, red, brown, coral, a misty purple and green.
3. Renaissance Era – The Renaissance Era is an era that is known for its opulence, art and culture. It was an Era that permanently changed Europe. Expect to see a resurge in this Era. Studs, velvets, silks, brocades, worn and old looking leathers. Small details such as pleats, scallops, tassels, lacing or ribbons. Look for some of the opulent materials as horn, mother of pearl and bone. And symbols being used as crosses, crests, horse and crowns. Gold and Pewter colors will be important as will a darker blue, olive green, oxblood red, sandstone, shades of brown with grey and for the more fashion forward purple in all tones and shades.
